It seemed like it was impossible to top the mens '05 soccer season for the 2006 seniors.  The team won conference and got honors all over the KCAC;  however, the entire team was excited when they saw the recruits Mike Dibbini was pulling in for the 06’ soccer season.

During the off-season last year Dibbini was bringing in recruits from all over the United States what seemed to be like every weekend.   The recruiting worked out to bring in 17 recruits from al over the United States.  These seventeen recruits are going to be the future of Kansas Wesleyan soccer.  According to Captain Joel Gunterman, “We knew the mixture of old and new players are going to be a talented team”  putting high hopes on the year to come.

Even with great recruits the team pulled in, the season has not turned out the way the team planned.  Even with the 12-3 record, it does not look like conference is in reach for the Coyotes.  However, the team does still have high hopes to go on and compete in regionals and nationals.  According to senior Brad Winton, “We have a great shot at winning region if the work ethic is there.”  The team is looking to finish second in the KCAC this year and win the conference tournament for their bid to regionals.

The season started a little rocky in California with a loss to Masters College.  Captain Trey Thompson said, “The loss did not bother me too much, they were a good team and we were not prepared, it was our first game, we needed more time to play as a team.”  However the team bounced back from the loss only to lose 3 games the entire season.  Winton said, “The year was not a disappointment at all, we have accomplished a lot this year and breaking into the top 25 for the first time ever, being first in the region.  Just because the title is out of the picture does not make this year disappointing at all.”

It is not hard to see that the Coyotes have their minds and goals set on winning the region and going to nationals.  Gunterman says, “We can make it.  We just have to set our goals high and make sure we work hard to meet them.”  If the team makes it to nationals it will be the first time in school history.

The Coyotes are left with two more home games, This Wednesday Oct. 18, at 7 PM and Saturday Oct. 21, at 8:00 PM to close out their '06 regular season.
